The authorities on Wednesday issued draft rules on the civil use of drones, which can even allow business use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for pictures, doorstep supply, and even passenger transport.

Under the draft guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), drones have been categorised into 5 classes primarily based on most take-off weight: nano (as much as 250g), micro (251g to 2 kg), mini (2kg to 25kg), small (25kg to 150kg) and massive (over 150kg).
“Except for nano category and those operated by government security agencies, all other commercial categories of drones will be registered by the DGCA, which will issue it a Unique Identification Number,” Choubey stated.
